Correcting Tongue and Lip Tie
Frenectomy is a dental procedure performed to address issues related to the frenulum, a small band of tissue in the mouth that connects the lips, tongue, or cheeks to adjacent structures. The procedure involves removing or modifying the frenulum to improve oral function and prevent complications. Frenectomy is commonly performed to treat conditions such as tongue-tie (ankyloglossia), where the lingual frenulum restricts tongue movement, affecting speech, eating, and oral hygiene. Similarly, labial frenectomy addresses restrictive tissue between the upper lip and gums, which can lead to gum recession or orthodontic issues. By relieving these restrictions, frenectomy promotes proper oral function, enhances comfort, and facilitates optimal oral development.
